Is Teya Beach Hotel good for surfing?

Absolutely! We're located just 200 meters (3-minute walk) from Kabalana Beach, home to "The Rock" - one of Ahangama's premier surf breaks. The area offers breaks for all levels, from beginner-friendly beach breaks to advanced reef breaks. Peak surf season is November to April with consistent waves.

How far is the hotel from the beach?

Teya Beach Hotel is 200 meters from Kabalana Beach - an easy 3-minute walk. You can literally see the ocean from our property. The Rock surf break is equally close, making it perfect for dawn patrol surf sessions.

What surf breaks are nearby?

The Rock (3min walk) - Ahangama's biggest wave, holding 8-10ft during peak season, ideal for intermediate/advanced surfers. Kabalana Beach Break (3min) - perfect for beginners and longboarding. Within 10-15 minutes: Marshmallow, Devil Rock, Lazy Left/Right in Midigama, and Coconut Point. All accessible by tuk-tuk or bicycle.

What's the best time to visit for surfing?

November to April is peak surf season on Sri Lanka's south coast. You'll find consistent swells, offshore winds, and sunny weather. The Rock can hold waves up to 8-10ft during this period. May to October sees smaller waves but can still offer fun sessions, especially for beginners.

Can you arrange surf lessons or board rentals?

Yes! We work with trusted local surf schools and can arrange lessons for all levels - from complete beginners to those wanting to improve their technique. Board rentals (shortboards, longboards, soft-tops) are available nearby, and we can help organize everything for you.

We feature an outdoor swimming pool perfect for post-surf relaxation, on-site restaurant and bar serving Sri Lankan and international cuisine, free WiFi throughout, free private parking, beautiful garden areas, and air-conditioned rooms with ocean or pool views. All rooms have private bathrooms and comfortable furnishings.

Do you have facilities for surfers?

Yes! We offer board storage areas, outdoor showers to rinse off after surf sessions, early breakfast available for dawn patrol surfers (6:30 AM start), and our pool is perfect for cooling down after morning sessions. We can also arrange surf photography and video analysis.

Is there a restaurant on-site?

Yes, Teya Beach Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a mix of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine and international favorites. Enjoy fresh seafood, tropical fruits, and sundowner cocktails with ocean views. We cater to all dietary requirements including vegetarian and vegan options.

Do you offer airport transfers?

Yes, we can arrange comfortable airport transfers from Colombo (Bandaranaike International Airport). The journey takes approximately 2.5-3 hours along the scenic southern coast. Contact us when booking to arrange your transfer.

Booking & Policies

What are your check-in and check-out times?

Standard check-in is from 2:00 PM and check-out is by 11:00 AM. If you're arriving early for a surf session, we're happy to store your luggage and let you use our facilities while your room is being prepared. Late check-out may be available upon request.

What's your cancellation policy?

Free cancellation up to 48 hours before check-in. For cancellations within 48 hours or no-shows, one night's accommodation will be charged. During peak season (December-January), we require 7 days notice for free cancellation. Please check your booking confirmation for specific terms.

Do you accept direct bookings? Is it cheaper than Booking.com?

Yes! Booking directly through our website or contacting us saves you up to 15% compared to OTA platforms like Booking.com. Plus, direct bookers get perks like free room upgrades (subject to availability), complimentary welcome drinks, and priority for early check-in/late check-out requests.

How do I get to Teya Beach from Colombo?

By Car/Taxi: 2.5-3 hours via Southern Expressway (most scenic and comfortable). By Train: Take the coastal train to Weligama or Matara, then a 15-20 minute tuk-tuk ride to Ahangama (highly recommended for the stunning coastal views!). By Bus: Local buses run from Colombo to Galle, then connect to Ahangama. We can arrange all transfers.

What else is there to do in Ahangama besides surfing?

Plenty! Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Galle Fort (30 minutes), go whale watching in Mirissa (20 minutes), explore Koggala Lake by boat, visit historic temples like Kathaluwa, watch traditional stilt fishermen, take a cooking class, enjoy yoga sessions, or simply relax on pristine beaches. Are there good restaurants and cafes nearby?

Ahangama has a thriving cafe and restaurant scene! Within walking distance you'll find excellent coffee shops, beachfront restaurants, healthy cafes, seafood grills, and international cuisine. Is Ahangama safe?
